Setting a Routine
A routine that I have established in my life since 2022 is keeping a gratitude journal. 2022 was a big year for me, I had recently started a new job, was getting ready to make my relationship commitment stronger and marrying the guy I had been dating since 2 years. This was overwhelming and managing all the intricate details to have a big fat Indian wedding and managing a full-time job with high demands and a lot of physical and mental strength consumed the best of my energy. I felt tired most of the time, I found myself complaining a lot about my work, about my health as I was not eating healthy. When you live on your own there are a lot of challenges that come with it and other than the major event that was in planning, and a full-time job; I had to manage other things too such as eating healthy, practicing yoga, running errands for the regular household stuff.
Visualization
To say less, the one message I have to convey is that life can look different at many points as nothing is ever constant and change continues to happen. In such times, it's important to remind ourselves of all the things that we are grateful for and how much we have achieved over the years. Write down all the things that you are grateful for and visualize all the feel good moments that happened in your life. I like to keep 5-7 minutes in the morning for this activity and I usually do it after yoga as my dopamine levels are higher and I am able to creatively journal in the morning hours before sunrise. This habit set a new tone into my day and that energy brought so much positivity into my morning that the rest of the day became smooth and easy.
Affirmations
To start this habit, I got this gratitude journal from Amazon. It is simply broken down into two routines (morning & evening). I did not know where to start this practice and what to write and this was a great place to start as this book has questions that helps you think and helps improve your journaling method. I have brought this journal multiple times in the course of a year and I continue to purchase it after it is over as it covers all the topics I am inspired to share with myself everyday and most importantly remember during my tough days. It also has the famous Oprah Winfrey's method of writing affirmations. You can write 3 affirmations for yourself that you want to remember for the day and other topics such as focus, gratitude list. what you are looking forward to, etc. The best part is this book is only for $9.97 on Amazon.
